Organization Type: University

Organization Name: i-TES

Short Biography: Chemist, certified EGE and CMVP with multi-year experience consulting in energy efficiency and energy management and technical management systems. He is chairman of Assoege and a past-member of the board of directors of the Piedmont Chemical Order and VdA. In 2015 he founded the start-up i-TES srl, located in Torino (Italy). He also lectures at the University of Torino since 2017. He holds a degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Torino (1998).

Added Value: i-TES is a company developing and commercializing phase change materials (PCM) for thermal energy storage (TES) applications. The collaboration with the company and the secondment of the researcher there, would mean having the opportunity to work not only on product development at lab level, but also to consider and develop scale-up of the process and bringing the products closer to the market. Of course, other topics such as patenting and employability would also be potentiated in the researcher’s work. Today i-TES participates in several EU-funded project, among which they collaborate with UdL in THUMBS-UP and SUSHEAT.

ResearchGroup

Description: GREiA is a research group at the University of Lleida (Lleida, Spain) that has a long experience in the fields of thermal energy storage (TES) technologies, buildings energy efficiency, artificial intelligence applied to control strategies, advanced control strategies implementation, and sustainable tannery processes. Since its foundation, in 1999, the group has been developing TES concepts and systems for different applications, such as solar water tanks, building envelopes, buildings heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, industrial applications, and concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. Moreover, GREiA has developed the life cycle assessment (LCA) of different systems such as energy-efficient buildings, energy-efficient HVAC systems, waste management systems, and others.

ResearchLine

Description: Innovative thermal energy storage tank with increased energy density and charge and discharge efficiency The PhD project is focussed on the development of an innovative TES tank with better performance of the state-of-the-art. Focus will be given in high temperature applications, such as waste heat recovery. Artificial intelligence tool will be used for the materials selection and for the tank design.
