Organization Type: Non-academic institution

Organization Name: TDN clínica

Short Biography: Dr. Igor Setuain graduated in Physiotherapy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2006, and received his PhD in 2015 from the Public University of Navarra. In 2014 he became Assistant Professor at the UPNA. Throughout his career, he has published 46 articles in JCR?indexed journals, 34 communications in congresses. His H?index is 6. He has been involved in 2 national research projects. Igor Setuain is currently the CEO of the TDN Clinic in Pamplona. He has been working for the last 15 years in the functional recovery of both professional and recreational athletes in Spain and European countries. He works in the therapeutic prescription in different areas such as Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation, and Sports Science, Podology, and Frailty patients. He has supervised 4 Doctoral Thesis. He has worked as Internship Tutor for the Vic University, Camilo José Cela University, and European University of Madrid. Igor Setuain has worked as international consultant of the Colombian Olympic Committee, as an injury consultant of the Athletic Club de Bilbao, Foolad FC (Iran), AL Wahda FC (Abu Dabi), and as a collaborating physiotherapist in Team Sky (Cycling).

Added Value: The co?supervisor (Igor Setuain) has a well? connected professional network, including local (Navarra, Movalsys, CEIMD) and foreign contacts (Colombian Olympic Committee, Athletic Club de Bilbao, Team Sky, etc) The co?supervisor would help the candidate in the transition to applied research, teaching the candidate the practical knowledge on Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Also the co?supervisor would assist the candidate in applying the his/her algorithms to detect loss of motor units to patients having neuromuscular impairments, loss of mobility TDN Clinic is a company that is growing fast, employing more and more specialists. This rapid growth opens up the need to employ an expert on IT technology, processing of patient’s data, digitalization, etc. This would open a good opportunity for a job for the candidate.

Short Biography:

ResearchGroup

Description: Our research group is the “Electromyography and Signal Processing Group” and is formed by 4 teachers (3 associate professors and 1 assistant professor) affiliated to the Public University of Navarre. Our research group has more than 20 years of experience in the analysis, modelling and simulation of electromyographic signals, and has published more than 100 scientific studies. For the past 20 years, these 4 teachers have collaborated regularly and actively with several specialists in Neurophysiology at the Hospital Universitario de Navarra. In fact, this group of professors and doctors make up the “Electromyography and Muscular Physiology Research Group” (IDISNA). Currently, 4 neurophysiologists are involved in the group. Thus, our research practice is developed in an interdisciplinary group where the pathological and clinical knowledge provided by the neurophysiologists is combined with the experience in analysis and simulation provided by the professors of the UPNA. In addition, the group collaborates with a rehabilitation clinic, called TDN, whose objective is the prescription of therapeutic prescription exercise based on scientific evidence.

ResearchLine

Description: The number of motor units contained in a muscle is a parameter of great diagnostic importance in pathological processes affecting spinal motor neurons. The research line of this project is the development and validation of a method to detect loss of motor units in a skeletal muscle. This method is based on a new analysis tool, called the filling factor, which informs about the degree to which an EMG signal has been filled. Specifically, the method assesses how the EMG signal fills with increasing contraction force by observing the changes in the filling factor during this progressive filling. The project works in 3 lines: (1) Development of the theoretical aspects. (2) Development of the experimental?practical aspects. (3) Validation of the method. The method presents several key improvements with respect to existing tests. It is quick and easy to perform for the patient. It does not require electrical stimulation, which reduces instrumental complexity and allows shorter explorations. As it does not use stimulation, it avoids pain for the patient. It can be implemented in a "non?invasive" way using surface electrodes, eliminating the pain of needle electrodes.
