ResearchGroup

Description: The Ecología y Medio Ambiente group is constituted by 12 researchers, 10 post-doctoral and 2 predoctoral. In brief, a new pre-doctoral research will join the group. The group is associated with two research institutes of the UPNA: the ISFOOD institute (Institute for Innovation and Sustainable Food Chain development) and the IMAB institute (Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Applied Biology). ISFOOD is constituted by 77 researchers incorporated in 74 research projects and 121 transfers contracts. The IMAB institute, created recently, has two main areas of deployment: biotechnology and environmental agrobiology. The group is included in the Campus Iberus Action Group FORCAM, within the research topic “Energy, Environment and Sustainability”. The team has an extended and consolidated network of partners of national/ international and academic/non-academic nature, which collaborate currently in the ongoing projects, and also has a fluent relationship with the regional government (Gobierno de Navarra) and local stakeholders (municipalities, local associations, environmental foundations,…). The official website of the group is: https://www.unavarra.es/ecologia/lineas-investigacion/

ResearchLine

Description: “Evaluating extensive livestock systems in the Irati Biosphere Reserve: A multidimensional analysis of sustainability, ecosystem services, and climate resilience” The main objective of the research is the characterization of 2 livestock management systems at both sides of the border (Roncesvalles-Selva de Irati LIC high mountain pastures and the Parc Nationale des Pyrenees) and the ecosystem services associated to the pastoral activity. Specific objectives include selection of agro and ecoclimatic indicators, in addition to environmental, economic and social sustainability indicators and the appropriate analysis tools to analyze them. The methodology includes both field work for data collection and the use of different sustainability evaluation models and tools for indicators analysis considering that the scope of the research covers all the phases from primary production to the commercialization of the final products. The main expected results are gaining knowledge in order to analyze and optimize operations and initiatives allowing to preserve the joint heritage of natural measures (natural pastures of the western headwaters of the Pyrenees) and to adapt it to the new scenarios of the climate change.

Others

Description: Supervisors of this doctorate research proposal fully agree with the MSCA Green Charter and have incorporate many of their recommendations in the work dynamics. The future young researcher, as member of our respective groups, will follow up these principles as well.
